Thoughts of Thanksgiving

Teachers (and students) relish vacations, such as the week of Thanksgiving, where a tiny break in the action is given to get some much needed "RRR" (Rest, Relax, and to Recover). Teachers need breaks, just as students do, but why do we really stop and take two days this week?

Its because we are thankful, or at least should be. As a nation, we are blessed!! We have more "_______" (you fill in the blank) than any nation, or people group, yet often we feel as if our "blessedness" is deserved, rather than having a sense of appreciation for what we have received. Genuine thankfulness is sometimes hard to come by in people.

What are you thankful for? (Save the pat canned answers please)

One down, Two to go....

I seem to think that the first trimester is the hardest in some respects. New classes, new teachers, new stuff. It takes time to adjust and get into the swing of things. Second trimester starts on Monday, and we get the chance to start over. What do we do differently?

PBA Day?

Today student's were hard at work for only a half day. I, on the other hand, had a full day of work with afternoon meetings to fill my time. What did you do on your half day?

Jim "Basketball" Jones

Jim "Basketball" Jones visited EMS today for a afternoon convocation. Needless to say I had a good time, learned that I am a fairly good listener, and that Mr. Haniford is a good sport. Jim's personal testimony is inspiring and encouraged me to not give up even when things seem hard or impossible. What did you think of Jim?

Death of a close friend

"Princess Too", Mr. B's beloved beta fish, passed away today in a tragic tank cleaning accident. Reports say that Mr. B had nothing to due with this death, contrary to popular belief, and the death of "Princess One". Postmortem water analysis indicated a foreign substance had been found in the water. The origin of this substance is not known, but believed to have come from the city tap water.

Pythagorean Theorem Made Easy!!!

Today I taught my 7th and 8th period how to use the distance formula to speed up Pythagorean theorem problems. To my surprise they took rather well to it. After a discussion as to the origins of the formula they were off to the races.
